We’re on a mission to make money work for everyone. We’re waving goodbye to the complicated and confusing ways of traditional banking. After starting as a prepaid card, our product offering has grown a lot in the last 10 years in the UK. As well as personal and business bank accounts, we offer joint accounts, accounts for 16-17 year olds, a free kids account and credit cards in the UK, with more exciting things to come beyond. Our UK customers can also save, invest and combine their pensions with us. With our hot coral cards and get-paid-early feature, combined with financial education on social media and our award winning customer service, we have a long history of creating magical moments for our customers! We’re not about selling products - we want to solve problems and change lives through Monzo ❤️ London/Cardiff/UK Remote | £85,000 - £115,000 + Incentive Awards tied to your performance + Benefits ✨ This role sits at the heart of our Control Discipline change agenda, building the controls product platform that powers safe growth at Monzo. At Monzo, we don’t treat risk and controls as a bureaucratic governance process. We treat our control framework, tools, and data pipelines as an internal product - designed to give engineers, product managers, and business leads the ability to ship fast - and safely. We are looking for a Senior Controls Product Manager to join our newly established Controls Product & Enablement team within our Controls Discipline. Sitting at the intersection of Product, Risk, Data, and Engineering, you will act as the Product Lead for Monzo’s core risk lifecycles (Issues, RCSAs, Controls, Policy, Reg Traceability). You won't just write requirement docs for someone else to build - you are a builder yourself. You’ll prototype low-code tools, leverage AI models, interrogate data pipelines, and architect automated workflows to turn manual risk friction into seamless, automated self-service. ⭐ Our Controls team The role will sit within the Controls Product & Enablement team which is part of the wider Controls Discipline in Monzo’s 1st line of defence Our teams work closely with cross-functional teams across the organisation including Technology, Data, Product, Operations as well and Risk & Compliance (the 2nd line of defence). As this is a newly established team (wherein you’ll have two direct reports already working in the team as data and automation specialists), this role holder needs to bring a flexible and adaptable mindset, as well as a willingness to deal with ambiguity as the team establishes its operating rhythm and embeds itself within the wider business. What you’ll do (Your Product Ownership Scope)… Own the Controls Product Roadmap: Define the vision, strategy, and backlog for Monzo’s internal risk products, replacing static, manual cycles with smart, data-driven platforms (SmartSuite, Zango, Looker, and native AI integrations). Hands-on Prototyping & Automation: Directly design, prototype, and build automated workflows, API integrations, and low-code/no-code solutions. You'll take an idea from a problem statement to a working MVP before partnering with core Engineering (if necessary) to scale or industrialise it. Pioneer AI in Risk Management: Champion AI adoption across the discipline. Experiment with LLM prompting, custom agents, and automated evidence-gathering tools to solve complex control problems and dramatically reduce manual drag for Monzo staff. Build for Real-Time Risk Intelligence: Drive the shift from annual "point-in-time" assessments to continuous, automated monitoring. Design data triggers (e.g., incident spikes, change flags) that alert risk owners in real time. Product Enablement & Adoption: Ensure high-impact adoption. Work closely with first line risk owners and Risk Partners to deliver clear "write" guidance, intuitive UI/UX workflows, and enablement that allows teams to self-serve effortlessly. Drive Execution & Delivery: Maintain momentum across the team’s delivery plan (guiding 2 specialised data/automation direct reports), keeping senior stakeholders engaged and removing blockers without bureaucratic overhead. We’d love to hear from you if… You think like a Product Manager: You obsess over user problems, value vs. effort prioritization, user experience, and shipping MVPs quickly. You are a Hands-On Builder: You can get under the hood with data and automation. You're comfortable with SQL, Python (or similar), APIs, workflow tools, or low-code environments to build a working prototype yourself. You’re AI-Curious & Practical: You actively experiment with AI/LLMs to automate manual tasks and make workflows smarter. You Understand Risk & Controls: You understand fundamental risk concepts (control design, RCSAs, issue management) and see the massive opportunity to transform them through tech. You Thrive in Ambiguity: You enjoy starting from first principles in a fast-paced environment and turning messy operational problems into slick, scalable digital solutions. You have experience in leading teams through change programmes, ideally within Financial Services Controls functions. You are hands-on and take satisfaction in supporting colleagues, projects or tasks however big or small - and can take a range of stakeholders on the journey with you You’re excited by what we’re doing at Monzo ℹ️ This role isn’t for you if… Your technology and data experience has primarily involved defining requirements for Data or Engineering teams to build, rather than building solutions yourself. You aren't comfortable getting hands-on with data, automation tooling and technical problem solving. You aren’t comfortable with ambiguity, or thinking from first principles You don’t enjoy working in a fast-paced environment You aren’t happy taking an MVP approach and doing what’s good enough for now with iterative changes to follow Equally, if your experience is primarily technical and you don't have sufficient understanding of risk and controls to translate control problems into effective solutions, this role is unlikely to be the right fit. What’s in it for you £85,000 - £115,000 ➕Incentive Awards tied to your performance. This role can be based in our London office, but we're open to distributed working within the UK (with ad hoc meetings in London) ⏰ We offer flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, and at times that suit you and your team. £1,000 learning budget each year to use on books, training courses and conferences. We will set you up to work from home; all employees are given Macbooks and for fully remote workers we will provide extra support for your work-from-home setup. ➕ Plus lots more! Read our full list of benefits. The application journey has 3 key steps Short call with a Monzo Recruiter Video-call with Hiring Manager (30 mins) Full-Loop: 3 x video-call interviews (covering Technical, Behaviours, and Leadership) This process should take around 4-5 weeks - your schedule is really important to us, so we promise to be as flexible as possible! We have some guidelines on using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to ace an application and interview at Monzo. You can read them here. ⏳We’ll close this role we have enough applications for the next stage. Please submit your application as soon as possible to make sure you don’t miss out. #LI-REMOTE#CM-1 Equal opportunities for everyone Diversity and inclusion are a priority for us and we’re making sure we have lots of support for all of our people to grow at Monzo. At Monzo, we’re embracing diversity by fostering an inclusive environment for all people to do the best work of their lives with us. This is integral to our mission of making money work for everyone. We’re not about selling products - we want to solve problems and change lives through Monzo ❤️ London, Barcelona, or UK Remote | £150,900 to £204,100 + stock options & benefits | ✅ Visa sponsorship & relocation available About our Data Discipline We have a strong culture of data-driven decision making across the whole company. Data is central to how we understand our customers, shape our products, manage risk and grow Monzo sustainably. We believe in empowering teams with high-quality, trusted data and self-serve analytics, while creating space for Data practitioners to focus on the highest-impact questions, opportunities and decisions. Our Data Discipline is deeply embedded in Monzo’s product areas. Data Scientists, Analytics Engineers, and Machine Learning Engineers work in cross-functional squads alongside Engineers, Designers, Product Managers and other disciplines. This means Data is not a downstream service, and instead we shape strategy, challenge thinking, build the data foundations teams need to move quickly, and share accountability for customer and commercial outcomes. Our EU team ⭐ Our EU Data team is a full-stack Data team, and together we're building Monzo's presence across Europe from the ground up. We're entering new markets, learning what customers in each need and finding product-market fit for Monzo. Our mission is to make money work for everyone, everywhere. As Data Director for EU expansion you'll lead the Data team and shape our product strategy as we grow, deciding where we place our bets, working out what to measure before there's a playbook, and making sure each new market learns fast enough to compound into the next. You'll work closely with EU leadership (our EU CEO, Country Managers and VP of Product) and Monzo's global Leadership team (the CTO, Head of Data and other Data Directors), sitting on the EU Tech Leadership team and helping shape our global data strategy. To do this well you'll need to relish ambiguity, bringing analytical rigour and commercial judgement to bets that often have to be made before the data is complete. You’ll play a key role by... You'll own the full learning loop that EU expansion runs on, and you'll co-own the product development loop alongside EU Leadership, Product and Engineering. In a new market that often means building those loops from scratch, so you're accountable not just for measuring what happens, but for framing the questions, defining what good looks like, and building the systems that answer them. You'll be a senior voice on the EU Tech Leadership team, the person who reframes the hard problems and puts a number on the trade-off between what's valuable for customers and what's valuable for the business. Shaping product and commercial strategy: You'll decide where Monzo should bet as we enter each new European market, sizing the opportunity and finding product-market fit for the products and segments most likely to win. You'll use sharp commercial judgement to work through the ambiguity of building in a new market, from pricing and positioning to the levers that drive growth, bringing Data into strategy early so we shape priorities rather than react to decisions already made. Owning the data strategy and the learning loops: You'll set the data strategy for EU and stand up the foundations each new market needs, from the events we log and the metrics and experiments we design to the forecasts markets learn from. Lead the goal-setting process for EU Expansion, bringing clarity to metric selection and target setting, in close partnership with Finance. Changing how decisions get made: You'll represent Data directly at the ExCo level, building a shared language of metrics and analytical reasoning so that Data drives EU strategy rather than reporting on it. You'll drive cross-collective collaboration, spotting the high-leverage connections across the business, for example how savings features drive engagement in our Wealth collective. Building and leading a high-performing team: You'll build, grow and retain a high-performing, full-stack Data team, where everyone shares accountability for product and business outcomes. You'll raise the performance bar, develop the next generation of Data leaders, and model an inclusive, high-craft Data culture as we scale. We’d love to hear from you if… What we're doing here at Monzo excites you, and the idea of helping take it across Europe especially so! You're a strategic data leader who has operated at Director level or above, and you're energised by zero-to-one ambiguity, having built or scaled a data function in a new market, product line or business from an early stage. You move comfortably from detailed metrics and data architecture to customer strategy, commercial outcomes and product-market fit, and you're happy to be the opinionated voice in the room that reframes the trade-off. You lead through learning loops and hold a high technical bar, because you've built or owned the measurement a business relies on to set goals, run experiments and improve, with the judgement to know which methods and investments will pay off. You have experience leading company-wide or division-wide goal-setting, defining high-clarity metrics, setting targets and partnering closely with Finance. You change how organisations make decisions, not just how project turns out, and you have experience of the cross-collective collaboration that connects the dots across different business areas. You're an empathetic people leader who has grown full-stack Data teams of both individual contributors and managers, comfortable representing Data at ExCo and to C-level peers, and you know what it takes to attract, develop and retain top talent. The application journey has 4 key steps 30 minute recruiter call 45 minute call with the hiring manager 4 x 1-hour video calls with various team members, including the General Manager for Payments A meet and greet with a member of EU Executive Committee Our average process takes around 3-4 weeks but we will always work around your availability.
